Blueberry strain is an Indica dominant hybrid (80% Indica/20% Sativa) strain with THC at 24 percent. It’s origins date back to the early 70’s when a famous American breeder named DJ Short started playing with different strains. This breakthrough Blueberry strain resulted in this delicious tasting variety. Although not known for sure, the Blueberry kush strain is rumoured to have descended from Purple Thai and Afghan strains, but we will never know for sure.
Blueberry bud took home the 2000 Best Indica award at the High Times’ Cannabis Cup thanks to its high-powered effects and mouthwatering blueberry vanilla flavor. The Blueberry high has a euphoric and hazy feel that creeps slowly, before washing over you with a sense of calm and ease. As this high grows, your mind will fall into a state of hazy introspection that immediately erases any negative or racing thoughts and numbs the brain. With these relaxing effects and its high 24% average THC level, Blueberry is said to be perfect for treating conditions such as chronic fatigue, depression, migraines, and chronic stress or anxiety. This bud has grape-shaped olive green nugs with bright blue undertones, fiery orange hairs, and a frosty thick coating of tiny amber colored crystal trichomes. It has a smell like the taste, with a spicy yet sweet earthy vanilla effect accented by fragrant florals.
During its growth throughout the season, the blueberry strain of plants was provided the TLC that can only be provided in a smaller scale grow. Pre-harvest, all the fan leaves were removed, and the plants were flushed with water and hydrogen peroxide to remove pathogens and remaining fertilizer. On the night before harvest, the plants were triple washed to remove any insect waste, mildew, dust and other undesirable particles. The Blueberry Kush strain was harvested pre-dawn to allow the water in the plants to adequately drain during the night when the sun is no longer present to draw it up. This is also the optimum harvest time to get the highest possible THC. Once dried, all the buds are hand trimmed, providing income for local workers. Hand trimming also preserves the integrity of surface crystals. Machine trimmed removes and destroys surface crystals, leaving the buds with a lower THC percentage.
